Limiting how many enemies in a campaign game

You can begin playing with all the factions plus many minor races particularly if you use the largest possible map array to allow some semblance of being initially unhindered. However you can also hold down on an empire you wish to eliminate until it turns red. So therefore you can literally turn off all the major races but one and just play against however many minor races you desire.
In the manner, this essentially emulates the Dominion (Omega Alliance) being the first major power in the Gamma Quadrant and then systematically eliminating all the minor races in that quadrant. Or the Klingons beginning from scratch at Qonos and eliminating all the other races. Or the Romulans, Federation, Cardassians, Ferengi, etc.
Or you could only turn on Romulans and Klingons battling for their seperate empires. Or the Federation and Klingons battling to develop the Neural Zone.
Maybe some new players may like this better than playing against all six at the same time?
