The Omega can make so many starships that they can assemble all along their entire border, then just put fleets on every minor races' home sectors internally to that border and either diplomatically bully them to join or seize them.

You could just invade the empires' own colonial sectors, but probably it is effortless to do so.

I'm having a strange google ap error on my new Vankyo tablet that runs Android 9 os. It kept causing an error, so I tried warm and cold booting it and to no avail. It is insisting that the os is corrupted and needs to do a factory reset! Crud. That means losing everything and having to reload aps. But losing the BotE saves since turn#400. Then losing all my work on the Balancer mod.

This is weird as this is a month old device.

Strangely enough, there is a US military rumor as of this morning of an internet kill switch due to mass civil unrest in the USA. I luckily have a venerable first generation tablet that I was using prior to play BotE.

Coincidence? Paranoia? Maybe?

Always back up your modding work to the cloud like google drive. I could have but did not as it was in transition.

I had enough foresight to have back up google ap settings on a scheduled basis, but they are four hours old. I have no idea if that will be successful...yet.

Besides that, the first thing I did was buy a micro SD card that I formated to be an extension of the hard drive, but I can't remember how I set up the saves for BotE. That was to provide protection in case of a software or hard drive failure as I used to work in tech support.

This is weird.

When you set up a micro SD card, it can be two ways.
1. It is removeable and so can transfer between devices.
2. It is not removeable but acts like an extension of the hard drive. That is how I had it set up.

In tech support, especially in any long standing way, then Murphy's Law takes place on a routine basis ie "Whatever can go wrong, will go wrong."

Users see isolated hardware and software failure while a tech sees it happening as a tiny subset of all users on any given day, but rather significantly so as we are so dependent on technology.

The iPads were the first true tablets and available in 2010.

The Nooks first pseudo tablets were in 2010. The Nook HD in 2012 was nearly a tablet but more like an ereader that could run some aps and browse the internet. The fact that BotE will run on it is amazing though with large fleets and many ships, it lags and has something like a recoverable time out error.

Goigle Drive is sort of running and attempting a backup that is four hours old, but not recognizing the microsd card and asking to format it. So I'm waiting to see after doing all the installs and patches if it then recognizes it. It may or may not.

I should have backed up my modding work specifically and seperately. Dumb.

The error was in the google play library. I don't know if this was a patch or what happened. My system is slightly more complex as I had many aps for design work plus a cloning ap.

Unless a system is rooted, you cannot mod BotE easily. If you clone an app, you can try to mod files to that cloned app. That was what I was developing for BotE. Then trying to come up with a procedure for loading the cloning software, the stand alone BotE app from blotunga outside the googleplay store. Then loading a mod patch for the Balancer version 1.0 mod.

See what a modder ideally wants is to leave the BotE original app pristine, but create a parallel app that is modded so players can play either and not mess up old saved games.

If running the windows version, this is unnecessary, but using Android OS is very specific.That is largely why not mods for BotE for Android exist. It is NOT mod friendly...whatsoever.

So the Vankyo tabletbackup worked using the four hour old remote backup.

That means a four hour old turn#408 was saved but of course lacking changes made since that time.

What is upsetting is the sd card was unrecognized and had to be reformatted. The whole point is that is supposed to save information to prevent data loss. I am not happy whatsoever.

I hope this never happens to you. Back up your modding in a specific folder on Google Drive or to any cloud app.

What ideally would happen is BotE would become more like unciv. That strategy game has lots of user created content like maps and scenarios and mods. They have that uploaded to a server and so you can have endless user content as alternatives OR play the original.

The way it is now makes BotE for Android difficult to mod unless since it is open source, you create a parallel app that is loadable from the Google Playstore that loads and is entirely seperate than the BotE for Android. That is beyond my current understanding and ability. I am not sure at all how one would distribute such an app.

This is supposed to be open source and that is not completely true as permission must be granted by the developers to even create a parallel app. I don't want to do that, but just mod the program, and make it available to correct the crazy way sabotage works.

It will days take to assess what needs to happen and get my tablet back to all its settings.

What should happen is create a procedure for BotE for Android to facilitate this as historically BotE Alpha was friendly to mod making and BotE for Android is a new platform and a modification of BotE Alpha.

Users will want a both/and not either/or situation where they can play their old save games on the original, but will enjoy mods that add starships, troops, buildings, races, and technology. Since it is open source, there may be some who mod how the Galaxy map is generated or the population maximums or incidental rate of stellar anomalies or planet classes or exactly when random events happen and what kind of random events can occur. They might change how combat is resolved.

As it is currently makes BotE for Android modding needlessly difficult and near prohibitive which is not in keeping with BotE history.

The unciv model means there is a repository of user created content that anyone can utilize in their own mod. Thus someone could create a new minor or major empire race, technology, troops, starships, and others could amalgamate them into a large mod. That is logical. And then save that as a mod and anyone can run that. And others can create a galaxy map and place empires and infrastructure and units on that map.

Or then switch back to the vanilla version...and load their old save games.

That seems wiser to me.

Your average user will only root a tablet when the warranty is no longer an issue as rooting voids warranties. You can't expect users to be willing to void warranties. They won't do it to play a game no matter how great it is.

You shouldn't have to change the app installation to mod a program as that overwrites the app making old saved games useless. I could make a mod and create an app, but I don't want to do that or even know if that would be allowed?

This is an odd turn of events. Only 8 people even downloaded the turn #300 saved game, so I'm questioning why I am even committing so much of my free time to doing this?

The average complaint about BotE is about sabotage.

The average user is unaware this forum exists or that the wiki exists.

The average user can't find any comments on the forum which explains aspects of BotE as they do not show up in goggle searches.

Only a tiny subset averaging 40-100 visit the forum out of at least 50,000 users.

Thus only a miniscule fraction would even know any modding exists. That is very frustrating.

I KNOW that BotE users search and download a cheat app that gives them unlimited cash. What they really want is to know how to manage the economy and successful build infrastructure and magnificent custom designed ships. As it stands, how would they do that as every explanation I have done for months can't be found by Google internet searches???

The same ideas happen when users try the bing search engine. Nothing on the forum shows up. That has nothing to do with moderation but how the forum was designed.

If you do any birth of the empire searches, then players want clear guides, manuals, videos, cheats, mods, etc. They just can't find them. The sole exception I have found has been a cheat app which I mentioned. Some videos have been made but not any good instructive ones, just unorganized playthroughs.

Stellaris has a mobile app and delaying is not a good strategy as they are Giants despite endless complaints about Stellaris. Uciana isn't nearly as good, but frustrated players will try that instead. There are several in beta development. This is a missed opportunity when BotE has so much potential. It's like nobody cares but me.

There are nearly 40,000 hits to the BotE modding topic so I know people want to learn how to mod and develop mods.

What a shame to not facilitate this as BotE is the best strategy game available for the Android tablet platform.

The tablet fatal crash that I experience occured when I was running a YouTube video to attach to a post here.

That led to corrupting a file in the Google play library. That corrupted the Android 9.0 OS and necessitated a factory reset fault.

Mysteriously, if you look this up, a worldwide crash occurred on YouTube, and outage maps show a worldwide internet crash at the same time.

Coincidence? I doubt it.

Look at the massive spike. There are reports of global outages as if orchestrated information warfare was taking place.

There was credible US military intel that something was going to occur. It then did happen.
