Early in the game, a empire might have weak ships that lack torpedoes. Well your nemesis might have them, but if you enter a torion gas nebula, they can't get a torpedo lock! That is outstanding like from the Wrath of Khan.

A clever scouting ship pilot would intentionally move into a quasar QSO as it boosts your scanning range like a powerful antenna and so maybe you have an older scout of limited ability but still could be like an advanced ranger doing recon.

Thé stellar anomalies are interesting and diverse, but if we had a map editor, I could create effective barriers that would protect some empires, yet at the same time would create havoc by having to carefully navigate a sector.
Wormholes are extremely rare, yet if placed rather than being random might be an amazing attribute of an empire. Guarding it would be extremely crucial to surviving or suddenly the enemy might attack your homesector.
There are lots of these diamonds in BotE that seldom can be useful because the map is randomly generated.
The reason the Cardassians are such brutes is they were spiritually rich, but had terrible famines, plausibly by poor planet class. So they waged war to steal better worlds. A mapper could create that and so their ethos has a logical explanation that the Terrans never faced. The same is true of Andoria being an icy world.

You attack diverse sectors, not planets, but a mapper could create an entire sector of planets like Pluto. Then what if a certain troop performs better on such sectors? Or what if all the planets in a sector are O class worlds so aquatic, and a specialized type of troop unit is specialized for fighting or defending on aquatic worlds?

If I could design a galactic map, some empire might be so protected by stellar anomalies that it would be like threading a needle to access their home sector and only by a certain route, as other route would ruin the starship and eliminate their experience. Only the best navigators and tacticians could invade that home sector.

If I was a vindictive player, as the Nynjan minor race are members, and since I built the Spec Ops branch on their home sector, I get a 50% bonus on military sabotage. Which is amazing but horridly unbalanced.

Logically every military tactician and strategist should use every weapon in the arsenal...when playing a game, yet obviously such careless abuses of power would be ruinous to diplomacy. It would be wretchedly unethical given the vast differance in power.
The AI does not care as it is merciless. Of course it would use that power.

Many times, despite the Omega bending over backwards to be benevolent, giving routine gifts of 4000 credits to their declared enemies for many turns to find a diplomatic solution, then once they join as members, one wonders what in the world did they spend the money on? Their economy is in a shambles. They are on the verge of starvation. Literally no energy sources exist. Mining has not truly been developed except at a rudimentary level. It is absurd.
A properly created scenario would develop all the 150 minor race's home sectors to some degree, with variations, so they could at least withstand a single bombardment. You feel embarrassed for them and if I was not rushing every single construction item in the building queue to rapidly get them on a stable footing, it would be hopeless.
There ae horrible conditions in some backward forgotten villages where they lack medicine, schools, adequate food, even potable safe drinking water. But imagine not a planet but many whole planets in 20 light year sector at abysmal levels of living standards. Life would be brutal on such sectors without intervention.
BotE is well designed so when developed, these minor species having a blooming cultural awakening, but it would be more stable and more of a challenge to adjust the basic starting infrastructure.

The point of terraforming your trading partner is to rapidly improve their infrastructure and help them grow, but doing so when they are openly hostile can be a wash as their conditions improve so this helps their diplomatic stance toward your empire but also is negated by your constant presence as they see you as meddling or worse as invaders.
It is not balanced...and this stance is derived from their racial attributes versus your own. It does not matter one bit that I play the Omega in a benevolent fashion. Nope. What matters is BotE does calculations and those calculations say the Omega are the enemy.

This is why so many minor races are entirely reticent to enter into diplomatic relations with the Omega. They are considered evil and Terrans are good which is one dimensional.
The only way to fix this is have more empires to choose from like evil Terrans and good Terrans. Ruthless Omega and benevolent Omega. Then the player can roleplay based on how they want that game to be.

The Omega are the best all around, but hampered by fear from every empire and minor race, yet that is not how I play at all. So in my mind, this is why playing the Omega is difficult.
The only worse empire is the unbalanced Khaoran when they would be the favorites when sabotage is balanced to some degree of realism.

I cannot think of a single wargame, board or computer, and I have played them since the early seventies, in which I was able to muster this level of military power. An immense armada is converging on Lambrecht for training. I could totally eliminate all five of the other empires.
Besides that, an immense number of level 6 troops have been mustered.
The Omega have so many special modifiers to military sabotage that with more than 5 million points internally and a total of 7.7 million, their modifiers for military sabotage are 1027% and 942% for espionage against military targets. I could ruthlessly either blow up or steal what ships the other 5 empires have created as well as ruin their troops.
I have never even heard of a game where such power was possible as the expense would be so high and raw materials so many that it would prohibit such a build up.
And this is early in the game if you consider what the AI has developed. I have created immense military strength before, but not this early.
I'm actually not building despite having capacity as I want to see mining pick up domestically in colonial sectors, eliminate unnecessary resource routes, and so have less dependency. You really don't want that during wartime as it could adversely affect the supply chain.
See most people don't play on huge galactic maps with so many sectors having stars and planets, so their games may end way before the galaxy develops into a wartime footing.
It would be glorious if every empire would be this powerful. But that would never occur randomly as the AI is impatient and would start minor and major clashes EVERYWHERE. There can be no orchestration of strategy without careful scenario building.
I don't want to commit to six months building such a scenario, but I am hoping I could gain insight into how the saved games are created, and then hope to extensively hex edit them. That might mean it takes a month instead of six months. It would be a magnificent scenario as complex as world war 2 but on a galactic scale.

If there would be six more technology levels, so up from finishing level 14 to level 20, I believe that level of technology would develop atomic manipulation and thus they could replicate all natural resources domestically in a sector. In other words, it becomes irrelevant if the ore and crystals are domestically mined... because they would created at the atomic level.
There has been a new UFO documentary called The Phenomena that was released about a month ago. And when Dr. Vallee who is the top world scientist studying the UFOs analyzed some crashed debris, and has three sources, the metallurgy upon analysis found atomic manipulation. We do not have the remotest possibility of doing that on the Earth at our stage of development.
The metallurgical analysis seems valid which is astonishing. An extraterrestrial or more plausibly interdimensional species can manipulate the elements of the periodic table and create what they require. They don't need raw materials, they create what they need. That is mind boggling.

That would be making matter on a mammoth scale so if a sector had no naturally occuring duranium, make whatever is required and abundantly so...or literally any element or alloy from scratch.
Advanced alien species then have no intragalactic supply chain as all the raw materials are generated domestically and in whatever required amounts. That is at such a high level of development that it's hard to fathom.
Total replication of matter in immense amounts to construct starships and plausibly reducing mining pollution to a miniscule amount on a terrestrial level. That is a major issue adversely affecting the ground water and aquifers.
